KL Rahul was born in Mangalore on 18 April, 1992 to K.N Lokesh and Rajeshwari.

Family

KL Rahul was born to K.N. Lokesh who is a Dean at the NITK, Mangalore and Rajeshwari Lokesh who is an associate professor at Mangalore University. He also has a sister named Bhavna.

Although both his parents were academicians, Rahul grew fond of cricket from a very young age that’s why Rahul’s parents decided to enroll him for attaining formal cricket training. After that KL started his training and decided to shift to Bangalore at the age of 18 to pursue his passion towards cricket.

KL has married to Athiya Shetty in 2023 who is an actress and daughter of Sunil Shetty.

Education

He completed his schooling from NITK English Medium School and his graduation in Bachelor of Commerce from Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, Bengaluru.

KL Rahul is a Right-Handed Wicket-Keeper Batsman. He occasionally keeps in the match. KL Rahul plays for India’s national team, Karnataka state team, and currently playing in Lucknow Super Gaints in IPL.

In 2010, he played the Under 19 World Cup for India. His debut test match was against Australia, and it was an international match held in 2014-15. In his very second test match, KL Rahul impressed everyone by scoring 110 runs.

Debut

KL started his international career for India as a Test Batsman against Australia in 26 December 2014. He got chance in place of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni presented him the Cap. Although, his debut was not good enough, He was only able to score 4 runs combining both innings.
But the day had changed and in the very next match, he hits his maiden international ton in Sydney while opening the innings with Murli Vijay.

After making the debut in the Test Cricket, he have to wait almost 2 years to debut in white ball cricket. Rahul got chance to debut in ODI and T20I in Zimbabwe Tour of India in 2016.

Lokesh Rahul scored a century in his first ODI against Zimbabwe in 2016 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni at Harare, and he is the first Indian player to achieve this.

Later in the same tour, He also debuts in T20I’s, but he was unable to show his ODI performance in T20I. He was dismissed for a golden duck in his debut match and became the first Indian batsman to get out first ball for zero in a T20I match.

IPL

Lokesh Rahul started his Indian Premier League (IPL) career for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as a wicketkeeper in 2013. In 2014, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought him for Rs 1 crore at the player auction. Then he again returned to RCB in 2016, and he scored 397 runs at an average of 44.11.

He missed the 2017 season due to a shoulder injury. In the IPL 2018 players auction, Kings XI Punjab bagged him for a whopping Rs 11 crore. He started the season with a bang, smashing Sunil Narine’s record for the fastest IPL fifty in 14 balls by taking one ball fewer to reach his 50. 

Overall, in 109 matches, he has scored 3889 runs at an average of 48.01, with 31 fifties and 4 centuries, his highest score in 132 runs.

Later he joined the new team in IPL as Captain of Lucknow Super Giants.
