Shreya Ghoshal was born to Hindu family on 12 March 1984, Berhampore, West Bengal. She is 39 years old as of year 2023.

Shreya Ghoshal grew up in the Rawatbhata city of Rajasthan, India. Her mother accompanied her in tanpura, and they rehearsed with Bengali songs. At the age of six, she started with her formal training in classical music from training in classical music from Kalyanji Bhai for 18 months and continued to learn from Late Mukta Bhide in Mumbai.

Family

Shreya Ghoshal’s father, Bishwajit Ghoshal is an electrical engineer and works for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India, and her mother, Sarmistha Ghoshal, is a post – graduate in Literature. She has a brother named Soumyadeep Ghoshal.

She got married to her childhood friend, Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya, who is an entrepreneur.

Education

Shreya ‘s parents found her musical talent in her early childhood days and they started her musical training at the age of four. Her most of her childhood was spent at Rawatbhata, a small town near Kota, Rajasthan and she did her middle school till 8th from Atomic Energy Central School No.4 in Rawatbhata.

Later in 1997, she shifted to Mumbai with her family after her father’s transfer to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. In Mumbai, Shreya completed her schooling from Atomic Energy Central School in Anushakti Nagar. Later Shreya enrolled to study science at Atomic Energy Junior College.

However, In her college days, she realized her passion for music and dropped out from her college. Continuing the studies she took admission in SIES College of Arts, Science , and Commerce in Mumbai and did her major in English.

Her first ever recorded song was ‘Ganraj Rangi Nachato’, which was the cover version of the Marathi Song, originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Her first studio album was “Bendhechhi Beena”, which was released in 1998.

She made her Bollywood debut as a singer with the film “Devdas” in 2002. She sang 5 tracks in the movie titled “Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka”, “Bairi Piya”, “Chalak Chalak”, “Morey Piya”, and ‘Dola Re Dola,” which went on to become huge hits.

Her Tamil debut was with the song “Yen Chellam” from the movie “Album(2002).” She released her first independent single “Dhadkane Azad Hain” in 2017.
